Description:
The Australian Scrub Python (Morelia amethistina) is found throughout the tropical rainforests of far north Queensland, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.
It is one of the world's longest and largest snakes, and the largest snake species in Australia.
They can reach up to 8 metres long and weigh in excess of 25 kilograms.
Males are usually a third longer than females and twice as heavy.
It is a non-venomous snake and kills its prey by constriction.
I came across this 2 meter long snake as it crossed the road when I was looking at a Swamp Wallaby nearby.
