Black Darter

Description:

The female Black Darter has black legs and brown eyes.
Her abdomen is mainly yellow, becoming browner with age.
She has small yellow patches at the wing bases.
The male Black Darter is the only small dragonfly that is almost entirely black.
His thorax and abdomen are mainly black.
The male's abdomen has small yellow marks on the side, that darken with age and his wings are clear.
Male Black Darters can often be seen resting in the sun or chasing after females, although they are not territorial.
The Black Darter is active in late summer, from the end of June until September.
It can be found in Asia, North America, and northern areas of Europe.
