There are three subspecies of the Blue-headed Parrot ranging from Costa Rica, Venezuela and Trinidad south to Bolivia and Brazil.
This is Pionus menstruus rubrigularis (also called Paler Blue-headed Parrot) occurring in southern Costa Rica, Panama, western Colombia and western Ecuador.
