Description:
Bocage's Wall Lizard (Podarcis bocagei) is a species of lizard endemic to the Iberian Peninsula, and only found in northern Portugal and northwestern Spain.
Bocage's Wall Lizard is a sturdy lizard, somewhat flattened, and resembling Carbonell's Wall Lizard (Podarcis carbonelli), which, however, seems to occur not as north in Portugal and Spain as Bocage's Wall Lizard.
A significant difference between the two is that the male Bocage's Wall Lizard does not have small blue spots along the edge of the belly which are often present in the male Carbonell's Wall Lizard.
In addition, the belly of the Bocage's Wall Lizard is coloured, while the Carbonell's Wall Lizard has a whitish belly.
Bocage's Wall Lizard can also be confused with Guadarrama Wall Lizard (Podarcis guadarramae) which is also found in the Porto region, but Bocage's Wall Lizard has a continuous stripe on the side of its back and Guadarrama Wall Lizard is only found on granite rocks.
