Chaffinch

Description:

The Common Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) is a common and widespread bird that occurs in much of Europe, across the Palearctic to Siberia.
The male is brightly coloured with a blue-grey cap and rust-red underparts.
The female is brown-grey, but both sexes have two contrasting white wing bars and white sides to the tail.
The Common Chaffinch is typically found feeding on the ground and often visits garden feeders.

The first 4 photos show the Madeiran Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs madeirensis) which is endemic to the island of Madeira and a subspecies of the Common Chaffinch (5th photo).
The male Madeiran Chaffinch differs from the male Common Chaffinch by being more bluish-grey and having a green tinge on the upper back.
