Ectima thecla (Tropical Brushfoot sp.)

Description:

Everyone misidentifies this as a Riodinidae sp. when they first see it, even experienced neotropical lepidopterists.
It is not very common.
This species inhabits rainforest at altitudes between about 100-1000 m.

Andrew Neild, author of The Butterflies of Venezuela helped me identify this butterfly.
