Ground Skimmer

Description:

The Ground Skimmer (Diplacodes trivialis) is a small dragonfly; the total body length ranges from 29 to 32 mm.
The male starts off yellow and looks identical to the female.
But as it matures it becomes a powdery blue colour.
Segments 9-10 in both male and female are black.
The male is easily recognized by its bright blue eyes, black tip of the abdomen and white anal attachments, known as appendages.
The body of the female is black with pale greenish yellow markings.
Her eyes are brown on top and yellow below.
It is one of the commonest dragonflies in gardens, fields and playgrounds.
This dragonfly usually perches on the ground and rarely flies above one meter.
