Large Gold Grasshopper

Description:

The Large Gold Grasshopper has a strong sexual dimorphism in which the male not only remains considerably smaller but also has a different physique.
Males reach a length of 15 to 19 millimeters, the females are 22 to 28 mm long.
The male is quite small, with a shiny green color and a strikingly pointed abdomen.
Females have small, triangular wings that are about as long as the pronotum.
Males have longer wings that extend to about three quarters of the abdomen, but there are also long-winged specimens where the wings extend behind the tip of the abdomen.
This species differs from the other native grasshoppers by the lack of forehead grooves.
