Description:
The Magnificent Frigatebird (Fregata magnificens) is a long-winged, fork-tailed bird of tropical oceans.
This bird is an agile flier that snatches food off the surface of the ocean and steals food from other birds.
The male has a striking red throat pouch which it inflates to attract a mate.
The female is slightly larger than the male and has a white breast and belly.
The Magnificent Frigatebird is renowned for its incredible aerial endurance, often staying in the air for weeks or even months at a time.
Frigatebirds sleep while flying, usually in short, 12-second bursts, averaging only 42 minutes of sleep per day, often while riding upward air currents.
They can sleep with one half of their brain, while the other half stays awake to navigate.
