The Old Lady (Mormo maura) is one of the largest owlet moths found in the Netherlands (forewing length: 30-36 mm). 
The pattern of which the incomplete dark band with the sharp light edges and the partially light veins is particularly striking, is not very variable. 
The color and intensity of the pattern may vary; some specimens are uniformly dull brown in color, others have a bright light brown, sometimes pink-tinged pattern and an extra wide dark central band.
