Description:
The Satellite Moth is an easy to recognize species although it is a fairly variable species with greyish or reddish-brown forewings, often marked with darker bands. .
The common name derives from the prominent spots, which has two smaller spots (satellite spots) close to it.
The color of the spots and also of the satellite spots can be white, but also yellow to dark orange.
No other owllet moth has these smaller satellite spots.
The adults emerge in September and can be encountered any time throughout the winter until April, in suitably mild conditions, when they can be attracted especially to sugar, but also to light.
