Spring Mining Bee

Description:

The Spring Mining Bee (Colletes cunicularis) is a species of solitary bee from the family Colletidae which is widespread in Europe and parts of Asia which nests in tunnels in areas of open, sandy soil.
This is the only bee within the genus Colletes to fly in the spring (early April to the end of May, rarely mid-June), rather than in the summer or autumn.
The males (11-14 mm) are smaller and paler than the females (13-14 mm).
