There are three different species within the Nephila genus and Trichonephila genus in Queensland: Nephila pilipes, Trichonephila plumipes and Trichonephila edulis.
These three look very similar but there are differences.
Trichonephila plumipes and Trichonephila edulis don’t have the red colouring on the palps and have yellow bands on the legs.
whereas Nephila pilipes has discrete patches of bright yellow only on the underside of its leg joints.
My photos show yellow bands on both sides of the legs so I guess it isn't Nephila pilipes.
I am not 100% sure but I think it is Trichonephila plumipes.
