Turkish Meadow Brown

Description:

The Turkish Meadow Brown (Maniola megala) looks very similar to the Meadow Brown (Maniola jurtina).
In general, however, the Meadow Brown, which is found almost throughout Europe, does not occur on the islands in the eastern Aegean Sea.
The Turkish Meadow Brown is found in the coastal areas of southern Turkey and in Europe only on the eastern Aegean Greek island of Lesvos.

The Turkish Meadow Brown also looks very similar to the Aegean Meadow Brown (Maniola telmessia).
In general, the Turkish Meadow Brown is slightly larger than the Aegean Meadow Brown.
In Europe, the Aegean Meadow Brown only occurs on islands in the eastern Aegean Sea (including Lesvos, Samos, Patmos, Ikaria, Kos, Karpathos and Rhodes) and also in Cyprus, Israel, Turkey and southwestern Iran.
Only on Lesvos, these two species occur.

Furthermore, there is the very similar Maniola halicarnassus which is the only Maniola species found only on the island of Nisyros, and Maniola chia which is the only Maniola species found only on the island of Oinousses.
