Description:
In May 2020, the Subalpine Warbler (Sylvia cantillans) was split into three different species:
1. Moltoni’s Warbler (Sylvia subalpina) which occurs in North-Central Italy, Corsica, Sardinia, and the Balearics.
2. Western Subalpine Warbler (Sylvia iberiae) which occurs in North Africa, from Tunisia to Morocco, Iberia, southern France, and extreme North-West Italy.
3. Eastern Subalpine Warbler (Sylvia cantillans) which has two subspecies:
a. Sylvia cantillans cantillans which occurs in Southern Italy and Sicily, and
b. Sylvia cantillans albistriata which occurs in extreme north-east Italy, the Balkans, Greece, and western Turkey.
