Description:
The Yemeni Spiny-tailed Lizard (Uromastyx benti) is found in the southern Arabian Peninsula (southern Yemen and southern Oman).
This species lives on gravelly slopes and escapes into big rock crevices when approached.
It can also be found in areas characterized by black volcanic rock (like at Tawi Atayr where I found it).
This mainly herbivorous lizard can occur in areas with very little vegetation, as it can feed on dry grasses where vegetation is sparse.
It seems that there are only few records of this species in Oman.
