Description:
The House Crow (Corvus splendens) is native to the Indian Subcontinent but has been introduced to various countries, including The Netherlands.
In 1994, after arriving on a ship in Rotterdam from Asia, a small population of House Crows established themselves in Hoek van Holland.
Because the House Crow was considered to be harmful to native species, after a court decision in 2013, all House Crows in the Netherlands were killed.
Since 2018, no more House Crows have been observed in the Netherlands.
Although it is usually described as an entirely black bird, it has a greyish collar.
These birds are often observed in flocks around urban areas.
