Common Three-ring

Description:

The Ypthima genus within the Nymphalidae family is a very confusing genus and there is quite some incertainty among experts about the species and subspecies.
The curious English names given to the butterflies in this genus (Three-Ring, Four-Ring, Five-Ring, Six-Ring) is based on the number of rings (or ocelli) found only on the hindwing of the species.
However, the number of rings on the hindwings doesn't always seem to match the English names.
