Description:
The subspecies Violet-crowned Woodnymph (Thalurania colombica colombica) and the Green-crowned Woodnymph (Thalurania colombica fannyi) have been treated as separate species in the past but are now considered as one species: Crowned Woodnymph.
The Santa Marta region has the nominate species: Violet-crowned Woodnymph (Thalurania colombica colombica).
The western Colombia region has the subspecies Green-crowned Woodnymph (Thalurania colombica fannyi).
