Description:
There are 9 Cimicodes species, distributed from Costa Rica to Peru and Bolivia.
All have falcate forewings, speckled with darker scales and marked with dark curved transverse lines.
The most distinctive characteristic of Cimicodes is the broad costal band, which is present in all species.
Franziska Bauer, an expert on butterflies from the Senckenberg Research Institute, Museum for Zoology in Dresden, Germany, identified the genus.
