Ashy Drongo

Description:

The Ashy Drongo (Dicrurus leucophaeus) is an agile and highly mobile bird, executing remarkable twists and turns in the air with extreme skill and speed.
With 14 different subspecies, each differing in their distribution and plumage colour, the ashy drongo is also exceedingly variable in its appearance.
All subspecies are marked with a black chin and a dark, velvety band on their front, but differ in the amount of lighter feathers on the face, with some having a full white facial patch and others having simple white eye patches.

1st, 2nd & 3rd photo:  this is the subspecies D. l. nigrescens, which occurs in the southern part of Thailand and Malaysia. It closely resembles D. l. mouhoti but that subspecies occurs in the north of Thailand.
4th & 5th photo: this is the subspecies D. l. leucogenis which is pale ashy grey with a white cheek patch and white around the eyes.
