About me
My name is Mark Eising, I am Dutch, in my fifties and I live in Hilversum, The Netherlands. One of my passions in life is observing wildlife, and birds in particular.
I have been birding since the age of 5 and especially the last 25 years I travelled around the world to observe birds and other wildlife. It is only since 2005 that I started with wildlife photography which has increased my love and fascination for animals even more.
I would like to emphasize that I am absolutely not a professional photographer and the camera's that I use have always been rather basic and light-weighted. Heavy equipment and multiple lenses would make it impossible for me to make long and exhaustive hiking trips to sometimes difficult terrain. Over the last 5 years I used the Panasonic DMC-FZ200 and I was very happy with it. Only after reading so many positive reviews on the in 2017 released Sony DSC RX-10 Mark IV Bridge Camera, I decided in March 2018 to make a switch to a much more expensive - and better - camera. And I am not regretting it! It has a 20-megapixel, 1-inch sensor and a long-range 24-600mm equivalent zoom. For photographing birds you almost can't do better!
If I have any time off work, I go out birding, both in the Netherlands and abroad. In addition, as an international corporate law attorney, my job takes me to all kind of countries on a regular basis. If I can, I take every opportunity to explore the local wildlife in those countries. I take a lot of pleasure in birding in the Netherlands with friends, including my friend Saskia who created my old website and co-created my new website, and my identical twin brother Rick and my sister Hester, and abroad with my buddies Jan from Amsterdam en Erik who lives in Houston, Texas.
In the spring and fall, I organize and guide bird trips in both the Netherlands and abroad. The proceeds of all my guided bird trips go to charity.
In summer, when the birding gets usually quite slow in the Netherlands (and elsewhere), I have found myself admiring and photographing other flying creatures, such as butterflies and dragonflies but also critters like beetles and spiders. The warmer months give me also opportunity to try catching, solely for photo opportunity purposes, all kinds of reptiles and amphibians, such as snakes, lizards and frogs.
If you have any questions or would like to have any further information about my travels, photographs etc., please leave a message on the contact page.
Cheers, Mark
