Description:
The White-throated Dipper is the only European songbird that spends a large part of its life under and in the water.
It is bound by clear, fast-flowing rivers.
It can swim and walk the bottom of shallow, fast-flowing streams in search of its favorite food, which consists of caddis fly larvae, beetles, other aquatic insect larvae and also fish and small amphibians.
It traces these by turning over stones under water.
It walks or plunges into the water and then continues its way under water to look for food.
By constantly flapping its wings, it ensures that it stays under water.
