The red wings were clearly visible when it jumped away.

This species was previously considered the same species as the Balkan Band-winged Grasshopper (Oedipoda meridionalis), which occurs primarily in the Balkan region and adjacent areas in Southeast Europe (such as Croatia, Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania).
Another very similar species is the Blue-winged Grasshopper (Oedipoda caerulescens), which, however, is easily distinguished by its blue wing color.
