Description:
The Small Argent & Sable (Epirrhoe tristata) is a small, distinctive moth with a wingspan of 24-26mm.
It inhabits moorland and other upland habitats, and flies from May to early July.
Adults will often fly in afternoon sunshine as well as at dusk.
‘Argent’ and ‘Sable’ are heraldic terms that mean ‘silver’ and ‘black’.
