Description:
For a long time the Craugastoridae family was a small family with about 115 species.
Today, however, many species formerly classified within other families are now assigned to the Craugastoridae.
The family Craugastoridae now has more than 810 species, making it the largest family of frogs.
All species are found in southern North America to South America.
According to Twan Leenders, an accomplished herpetologist and author of the Guide to the Amphibians and Reptiles of Costa Rica (and some other books on reptiles and amphibians in Costa Rica), this is probably a Craugastor species but he is not 100% sure.
I met Twan during my visit to the Biological Station Rara Avis (now an Eco Lodge) in the Braulio Carrillo National Park in Costa Rica in 2003 and ever since I sometimes ask his assistance in identifying reptiles and amphibians that I have seen but not been able to 100% identify.
