Description:
The Blue Dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis) is very common and widely distributed through North America and into the Bahamas.
It has a white face and a black tip to the abdomen.
Both sexes have an amber patch at the base of each hindwing.
Males are easily identified, given their vibrant blue color, yellow-striped thorax, and metallic green/blue eyes.
Both the the female and male have a yellow-striped thorax, but the female's abdomen has a distinct brown and yellow striping that differentiates her from the male, along with contrasting red eyes.
With age, both sexes develop a frosted color.
