Description:
Aglyptodactylus is a genus of frogs in the family Mantellidae and are endemic to Madgascar.
They have two typical black markings laterally on the snout which are only rarely absent, and a small pair of black markings in the inguinal region.
During the breeding season, the males turn yellow.
There are three Aglyptodactylus species in Madagascar: A. laticeps, A. securifer and A. madagascariensis.
In Andasibe-Mantadia National Park only A. madagascariensis occurs.
Dr. Miguel Vences, expert on Malagassy frogs, informed me (December 2014) that there is a new Aglyptodactylus species (they are revising the taxonomy right now) from lowlands along the east coast which is almost indistinguishable morphologically from A. madagascariensis, but it has never been found below 600 m altitude and is very unlikely to occur in the Andasibe area.
