Description:
The Plain Tiger, also known as the African Monarch, is a medium-sized (wingspan of 7–8 cm) butterfly widespread in Asia and Africa.
The male Plain Tiger is smaller than the female, and more brightly coloured.
There are three subspecies:
1. Danaus chrysippus chrysippus (Asia, Mediterranean region, eastern tropical Africa);
2. Danaus chrysippus alcippus (western, central and eastern tropical Africa, Cape Verde Islands and Middle-East). This subspecies has a white patch on the hindwings;
3. Danaus chrysippus orientis (central, eastern and southern tropical Africa, including Madagascar, Comoros, Seychelles and Mascarenes.
In 2010 another subspecies was recognized by some authors: Danaus chrysippus dorippus which actually five years earlier by some auhors was recognized as a full species: Danaus dorippus.
However, since 2015 this taxon seems no longer accepted as a subspecies or as a full species.
I think the 1st, 2nd and last photo show the subspecies Danaus chrysippus alcippus (becasue of the white patch in the hindwings).
The others look a little different and could well be D.c. chrysippus or D.c. orientis.
